Tribunals Print this Page The Employment Tribunals have exclusive jurisdiction to deal with most employment claims. There are employment tribunals across the country.
Claims are heard by a legally qualified Chairman and two lay members who are not legally qualified but come from an employer and employee background respectively. Together they combine expertise on the law and on what is considered good industrial practice.
The Employment Tribunals are busy and many cases cannot be heard within less than 6 months. Many cases do settle before a hearing.
Attending a tribunal hearing can be a daunting experience. Evidence is given on oath and although you won’t see any wigs or gowns, it is a formal process. It can also be intimidating to face your opponent for what is usually the first time in a long time, during which time a lot has been said via the lawyers.
Whether we present your case ourselves – and we do so for many clients - or whether we use a barrister, we will try to make the process as painless as possible. We will prepare you as much as possible for what may happen so that you feel as confident as you can.
