Employers

In today’s world of bureaucracy and procedures employers can be forgiven for feeling the burden of legal regulation - disciplinary procedures, Health & Safety requirements, family-friendly legislation - and even the best employers run into difficulty and situations arise which call for:

  • The dismissal of an employee because of redundancy, misconduct or performance/illness issues
  • Responding to grievances and managing problems and disputes in the workplace
  • Offering a “Compromise Agreement” to an employee as a settlement of a potential claim
  • Disciplining an employee where dismissal will not result but where the circumstances are difficult
  • Making changes to employees’ terms of employment
  • Managing business transfers and reorganisations
  • Decisions about paying discretionary sick pay
  • Responding to requests to change work patterns (flexible working)
  • Defending an Employment Tribunal claim

It is, of course, vital that employers are aware of and regularly keep updated on their legal responsibilities to employees.

We work in partnership with employers, guiding you through your duties and protecting you from claims.   We put in place contracts of employment, employee handbooks and policies and procedures tailored to the needs and goals of your business. While doing this we get to know you, your business and the industry you work in. Then, just a phone call away, we help prevent difficult situations from escalating. We take a pragmatic approach; we don’t shy away from robustly defending claims but will keep your business goals in mind when advising you how to resolve issues. We provide continuity of advice – you will always deal with a specialist solicitor who knows you and your business - so that you do not need to explain matters time and again.

We provide a fully serviced Employers’ Protection Scheme which offers insurance cover against employment claims. Our Scheme includes a dedicated telephone help line which provides general legal and HR advice, plus a company Health Check / audit to ensure you are up to date with employment legislation.   It includes a range of other services according to the level of cover you feel you need. We tailor our scheme to suit your needs – see the section below for further details. Our scheme rates are extremely competitive against other providers of business protection schemes.

Whether under the Scheme or not, we provide specialist advice on all areas of employment law and representation in the Employment Tribunal, Employment Appeals Tribunal and the civil courts. We also offer mediation services for when disputes arise. Our legal team is experienced and incisive, yet flexible and approachable.

Employment Integration provides bespoke in-house training in employment law to organisations. We also provide public courses in employment law through the Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, and for the legal profession through BPP Professional Development and MBL Seminars.

We would be happy to discuss your requirements with you at any time, either face to face (at your own offices if you wish) or over the telephone.

Staff Problems?
Stop- are you following the correct procedures?
The law changed in October 2004 and there are new, strict obligations where you dismiss an employee, or where they have a grievance. Failure to comply will lead to claims, wasted time and extra costs.
Organise- your business and its procedures
Make sure you have contracts of employment for all staff, clear polices and a company handbook; review regularly, get some training and make sure your managers know their role.
Learn- from your competitors
Getting it right means better performance and profitability, fewer claims and costs, and improved staff retention.
Voice- be seen to have a voice
Deal with problems such as lateness, absence or poor performance quickly and effectively. Failing to address problems early can cause real difficulties later on.
Engage- with your employees
There are few workplace problems that can't be resolved with good communication. Treat employees as you would want one of your family to be treated by their employer.
Discuss - with an employment law expert!
Discuss your situation with a specialist employment lawyer for guidance, support and objective advice. Seek advice as soon as possible to avoid problems escalating.
